Apple has come up with its new release for iPhone iOS 14.1 and iPadOS 14.1. This latest update is focused on compatible iPhone and iPad models. It has been just a month when the company comes with their update of iOS 14.0.1 and iPadOS 14.0.1, and now we have a new update as the bugs got fixed in this update. Apart from the many improvements and fixing bugs, the iOS 14.1 and iPadOS 14.1 comes with 10-bit HDR video playback and edit support to existing iPhone and iPad models.
iOS 14.1: What’s new?
Apple has provided the changelog for iOS 14.1. This version provides support for 10-bit HDR video playback and editing in the Photos App for iPhone or the latest models. The latest iPhone 12 series comes with a 10-bit HDR video recording. These videos wouldn’t be able to play on the older models due to hardware limitations. But now, the existing iPhone users would be able to watch and edit videos they receive from the latest iPhone models.
Apart from this, you can find fixes for the problems that were causing some widgets, folders, and icons to appear in small or reduced size. There is also a fix to the issue in which on dragging the widgets on the home screen leads to removing apps from folders. Fixes for issues where the emails in Mail were sent from an incorrect alias and incoming calls will not display region information.
Earlier, there was an issue in which there was an emerging call button to overlap with the text input box when zooming display mode. This issue no longer persists. Similarly, there was an issue in the Calculator app in which the zeros are not appearing on the screen, it has been fixed now. Also, the users couldn’t download or add songs in their library, it is also fixed.
The issue of temporarily reducing streaming video resolution at playback has been resolved. It also addresses an issue of the Files app which was causing MDM-managed cloud service providers to incorrectly display as unavailable. You can also find improvements in the Ubiquiti wireless access points’ compatibility.
There were some existing issues in the Apple Watch which have been also fixed. For e.g. the users were not able to set up a family member’s Apple Watch. In the other one, the Apple Watch case material was displayed incorrectly in the Apple Watch app.
However, iOS 14.1 doesn’t address the issue of battery draining which was introduced in the iOS 14 release. Apple even addressed this issue in public and provided a workaround. It means to restore the iPhone after deleting all the stored content.
iPadOS 14.1: What’s new?
Just like iOS 14.1, you will find fixes for iPadOS 14.1 regarding the widgets, folders, and icons on the home screen. Also, there are fixes for mail app, music library, video playback, and the Files app. There is a 10-bit HDR video playback, editing support to the Photos app for the iPad Pro 12.9 inch (2nd generation), and the other latest models.

First and foremost, iOS 14 brings a redesigned Home Screen that includes support for widgets for the first time. You can drag widgets from the Today view right onto the Home Screen, and can be pinned in different sizes.
With a Smart Stack feature, the iPhone can use on-device intelligence to surface the right widget based on time, location, and activity. Each Home Screen page can display widgets customized for work, travel, sports, and more. The Today section has also a new design.
